Electronic Boarding Passes Legally Equivalent to Paper for Expense Reports Starting March 2024

Starting in March 2024, electronic boarding passes will be legally equivalent to paper boarding passes and can be used for expense reporting purposes. This was announced by the Russian Ministry of Transport, citing clarifications from the Ministry of Finance.

"Starting March 2024, expenses related to the purchase of an air ticket can be reported using an electronic boarding pass* instead of a paper document. With this, the Russian Ministry of Transport, together with the Ministry of Finance of Russia, has removed all barriers to the widespread adoption of the electronic boarding pass in Russia, " the Ministry of Transport stated.

To confirm the fact of the flight, it is sufficient to provide the accounting department with an electronic boarding pass issued by the airline during online check-in, in addition to the electronic ticket. No additional stamps or marks, as were sometimes required on printed boarding passes, are necessary, the Ministry of Transport added, clarifying the new procedure.

"In the near future, the Russian Ministry of Transport will approve a standard form for the electronic boarding pass to be used by all airlines, " announced Dmitry Bakanov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.
